The Sky Nests are high bamboo pole structures supporting a traditional palm leaf roof.
This will be a public outdoor installation and several of the sculptures will be arranged along the available area, in contrast with its urban environment.
The roof is a symbol of shelter.
It will be out of reach at heights of twenty to thirty meters.
The idea of creating this lofty space is based on the bamboo houses that I have previously built.
This abstraction allows the connection between the earth and the sky, a home for the spirits.
The Bamboo Tower
THE TOWER IS A BAMBOO SCULPTURE, MEANT TO FIND ITS PLACE WITHIN THE PUBLIC SPACES ON THIS PLANET.
VISIBLE TO EVERYONE.
HEIGHT OF 100 METERS OR 350 FEET AND CONSTRUCTED WITH BAMBOO,
IT IS THE TALLEST SCULPTURE, LET ALONE BAMBOO SCULPTURE, IN THE WORLD.
IT HAS A ROUND AND RELATIVELY SMALL BASE OF ONLY 15 METERS AND ITS WIDEST DIAMETER IS AT MEDIUM HEIGHT.
THE LOFTY AND SKELETON-LIKE STRUCTURE COMES TO A POINT TOWARDS ITS TOP.
THOUSANDS OF CANES ARE HELD TOGETHER BY WOODEN PEGS THAT ARE PRECISELY JAMMED THROUGH HOLES, WHICH AGAIN ARE PLACED
EXACTLY WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.
CONCEPTS OF ALL KINDS AND WITHIN ALL CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS FIND THEIR COMMON GROUNDS WITHIN THIS SCULPTURE,
WHERE THE ENTIRE MOMENTUM OF EXPERIENCE AND ITS PHYSICAL APPEARANCE COME TOGETHER INTO A SPIRITUAL REALM, LEAVING EVERYTHING ELSE BEHIND.
CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN EACH ONE OF US AND BETWEEN ALL THINGS AROUND US IS THE MAIN IDEA.
EACH HOLE AND, WITH THAT, EVERY SINGLE OF THE FIFTEEN THOUSAND PEGS ARE CARRYING A THOUGHT AND A CREATIVE IMPULSE TO BE UNITED WITH THIS SCULPTURE AND COLLECTIVE PROCESS OF THOUGHT.
EACH HOLE AND WITH THAT EVERY SINGLE OF THE FIFTEEN THOUSAND PINS are CARRYING A THOUGHT AND A CREATIVE IMPULS TO BE UNITED TO THIS SCULPTURE and process of thought using an ancient material and applying this rudimentary technique of construction reflects a timeless contribution at a time of cyberspace and nano technology.
It also reflects the fact that our improving technologies do not effect the core of our struggles as the people of this planet.
It is a rather independent process, an energetic evolvement within ourselves to achieve progress as individuals and as a society.
The Sculpture is a reminder of the evolution.
